April Monthly Winners - Scooter Games

Each month, there is a special event planned by the Green Team, for our GMS students.  Random drawing of CLAWs provides the names for students who have demonstrated the respectful, responsible, and really safe behaviors that the teachers and staff seek.  In April, our monthly winners included two students from each class who had the chance to play some scooter games in the gym.  Each of the monthly winners receives a notification note going home to let parents know that their child was selected, and that parents are also welcome to come in and watch (or sometimes participate!) the special event.

A New Grizzly Pledge

Here, we have JD of 5L reading her winning Grizzly Pledge to the rest of the school.  Her pledge was chosen from 19 different entries for a contest to write a new pledge to encourage Grace McWayne students to practice the 3R's each day.

Weekly Winners

Each week, students are recognized for their 3R's (being respectful, responsible, and really safe) in the form of a CLAW.  CLAW stands for Caught Learning and Working appropriately.  Students are issued a small paper CLAW on which they write their name.  These CLAWs are used in random drawings for weekly and monthly winners.  This is a photo of a group of weekly winners who have been recognized by having their names read over the PA system by Mr. Modaff, as well as a group photo taken and displayed in the lunchroom.  A certificate recognizing their great behavior (and their selection) is sent home as well.

Frozen Turkey Bowling - November Celebration

Our students and staff were treated to the first all school assembly of the year when the Green Team hosted a Turkey Bowling event.  Students from K through 5 took turns bowling with frozen fowl. These students were chosen in a random classroom drawing of CLAWS earned for respectful, responsible and really safe behavior on the GMS campus.

In a final game of the day, the teachers had a cosmic bowl (courtesy of Mr. Modaff).  Our high-tech day was complete when Mr. Modaff bowled three straight strikes to earn a "Turkey."
